Connecting Communities_ Creating Stories
What is Connecting Communities, Creating Stories, you may ask. The outreach initiative, Community Composing Project sponsored by the Writing Center @ Michigan State University, met with community partners to decide what the next big outreach push would be after wrapping up MidWestHungerIs. From that meeting came this idea of telling stories. But even more importantly, listening to stories.
From those conversations came the idea of bridging differences by telling and listening to the stories of residents from the Greater Lansing area, or even of Michigan. It is important, as Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie tells us, to have more than one story. The dangers of listening to only one narrative are detrimental to our communities.
