Piazza in Practice: Enhancing Communication and Collaboration in Large Undergraduate Classes

Questions arise when students are completing tasks for a class, and instructors must have a way to manage these questions. How do students contact the instructor if they have a question about class? While email can suffice, it can become difficult to manage in large classes--especially when students are asking the same question. Using a Q&A platform for students, like Piazza, can help elevate some of the stress of handling questions. Andrea Bierema has been using Piazza in courses since the pandemic. Bierema teaches multiple sections of the same course each semester and combines the sections on Piazza. This session consists of a presentation on how Piazza works, followed by an open discussion on additional uses of Piazza and alternative platforms that might better serve attendees’ needs.
