The Cataloging Manual Reinvented: the New RDA Toolkit and the 3R Project

This session took place on May 12, 2021, as part of the ARLIS/NA Virtual Conference hosted by the ARLIS/NA MOQ Chapter. Presenters include Sherman Clarke, Liz O'Keefe, Alex Provo, Andrea Puccio, and Karen Stafford. In the presentation, members of the ARLIS/NA Cataloging Advisory Committee give a general overview of the changes to RDA and the major conceptual and functional changes made to the Toolkit with a focus on the needs of art catalogers. RDA and the RDA Toolkit have undergone a substantial revision known as the 3R project (RDA Toolkit Restructure and Redesign). Panelists present on the CAC’s efforts to propose changes to RDA, on the potential creation of an RDA Toolkit application profile for cataloging art material, and the committee’s ongoing revision of the “Cataloging exhibition publications: best practice” document (published by ARLIS/NA in 2010) to comply with RDA standards.
