Radio programs on transcription discs featuring Paul Kasander (October 15th, 1922 - October 17th, 2002)
Paul Kasander (Kaczander) was a TV and film director who got his start in Detroit Michigan. Paul was born in Halfway, Michigan, now called Eastpointe. He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Northwestern High School. Paul was born Paul Kaczander, and changed his name to Kasander when he went into show business.
Starting at age 17, Paul was an actor working in radio broadcasts of "The Green Hornet", "The Lone Ranger", "The Challange of the Yukon", all originating in Detroit. He could be heard weekly on these shows until he left Detroit for New York City in 1950.
In 1942, as a student at Wayne State University, Paul won a national talent contest to appear on the Fred Allen radio show where he recited a poem, written by a college classmate. At the time, WWII was raging, so he enlisted in the Army Air Forces, working in Special Forces in the States.
At the war's end, Paul returned to Wayne State in Detroit, where he had been studying before the war. He earned a Bachelors and Masters in Education and then taught speech and broadcasting at Wayne from 1946 until 1950. He was also director of the Wayne State University Theater of the Air which was broadcast over WJBK in Detroit.
In 1950, Paul became a director at CBS and moved with his wife of 2 years to New York City. Paul worked for the Walt Framer Production Company and they produced "Strike It Rich" and "The Big Pay Off" and other TV shows. From there, Paul continued to produce and direct TV shows and commercials with various production companies in NYC.
Throughout his career, Paul developed many radio and TV shows both in Detroit and NYC. Paul continued his career "behind" the camera, as a producer or director, rather than acting. Although in the early 1960's, Paul was the emcee of a game show that aired one season. Paul was a long-time member of the New York Chapter of the Director's Guild of America and a proud member of the Friar's Club.
In 1973, he joined his wife and created an advertising agency, specializing in developing and producing corporate and educational films, until his retirement in 1991.
