QFC-CEM Multispecies Modeling Symposium
QFC-CEM Multispecies Modeling Symposium
The 2nd Annual Quantitative Fisheries Center (QFC) – Centre for Ecosystem Management (CEM) Joint Symposium was held August 7-8 at Michigan State University. The topic for the symposium was “Approaches to Multispecies Modeling to Inform and Benefit Fisheries Management”. The symposium included three keynote presentations by fishery scientists with a range of experience in multispecies modeling: Drs. David Chagaris (University of Florida), Melissa Haltuch (NMFS - Alaska Science Center), and Daniel Howell (Institute for Marine Research). The symposium also included 13 contributed presentations about ongoing multispecies modeling in the Great Lakes and potential data sources for multispecies models. The symposium concluded with a discussion among participants as to the future of multispecies modeling and ecosystem-based fisheries management approaches in the Great Lakes.
