The 2008 Rachel Carson Lecture, "Biodiversity, Sustainability and the Future" was delivered by Peter Raven on May 1, 2008 at the Radiology Auditorium on the Michigan State University campus.
Peter Raven is a world-renowned environmental scientist and botanist. He has authored award-winning textbooks and written hundreds of peer-reviewed papers on a wide range of important issues such as biodiversity and sustainability. Following nine years as a faculty member at Stanford University, Raven has been president of the Missouri Botanical Garden for 36 years, which he has transformed into the world’s most active institution for botanical research, collection, education, and outreach.
While Raven was on campus to deliver the Rachel Carson lecture, he received an honorary degree from MSU and was the keynote speaker for MSU’s spring 2008 Advanced Degree Commencement Ceremony.
