This video contains the final round argument of the 2026 GSMCC competition between the
University of Detroit Mercy College of Law (Team 5) and Michigan State University College of Law (Team 14).

The 2026 Gender + Sexuality hypothetical fact pattern presents a First Amendment case with two issues before the United States Supreme Court. The first issue asks whether a school district violated a high school student’s rights under the Free Speech Clause when it suspended him for wearing a shirt with a message that offended other students. The second issue asks whether this suspension violated that student’s rights under the Free Speech Clause because he wore the shirt in accordance with his religious beliefs.

The Awards ceremony follows the final round of arguments.

The State Bar of Michigan LGBTQ+ Law Section sponsored the Best Brief and Best Oralist Awards this year.
