This oral history of Wolfgang Freitag was conducted by William Walker, Chief Librarian of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, on March 12, 1991 at the 19th Annual ARLIS/NA conference in Kansas City, MO. Freitag describes the formation of ARLIS/NA and important steps and possibilities along the way. He discusses the early conferences and what was addressed. He talks about his work advocating for better cataloging practices, especially for exhibition catalogs. He also shares about his leadership within the society, including his ARLIS/NA presidency in the early 1980s and work in the formation of the ARLIS New England chapter. Other topics include how he worked with book shops and dealers/distributors as well as how the art librarianship profession has changed over time.
