Here we see the home of Francestown's most famous 'native son,' Levi Woodbury (1789-1851). He opened a law practice in the village in 1812, and served in the State Senate, as governor, in the US Senate, as Secretary of the Navy under Andrew Jackson, as Secretary of the Treasury under Martin van Buren, and was appointed to the US Supreme Court in 1845. There was support to draft him as the Democratic presidential nominee in 1848. Trivia point: He was the first USSC Justice to have attended law school!
