Bovine tuberculosis (bTB), caused by Mycobacterium bovis, exemplifies a complex One Health challenge at the human–animal–environment interface, affecting livestock, wildlife, and human populations worldwide. Although intensive surveillance, testing, and eradication programs have significantly reduced prevalence in cattle in the United States and other high-income countries, the disease persists in wildlife reservoirs and continues to pose occupational and food-borne risks. Globally, bTB remains endemic in many low- and middle-income countries and contributes to zoonotic tuberculosis cases in humans, highlighting the need for integrated research, education, and surveillance systems that strengthen cross-sector collaboration to prevent and control emerging epidemics.
