Abstract: 

The advancement of Public Health in Indonesia encompasses a myriad of challenges and concerns, grappling with various issues rooted in socioeconomic and sociocultural disparities. Given the nature of public health as a form of social experiment, presentations in this panel explore the current state, opportunities, and challenges of public health in Indonesia as a crucial venue to analyze the progress to achieve the dream of “Indonesia Emas 2045”. Fairuziana Humam examines gender norms and psychological well-being among Acehnese women in relation to gender norms, religious beliefs, and the socio-political dynamics in Aceh, the only sharia region in Indonesia. Collecting narratives from Acehnese Muslim women who experience living and growing up as a Muslim in Aceh and have lived abroad, Fairuziana's study finds that Muslim women’s psychological and emotional well-being cannot simply be dichotomized into a category of oppressed or liberated. Satwika Paramasatya focuses on the rising interpersonal violence among Gen Z youth in Indonesia who make up the majority of the current Indonesian population. Recognizing the strategic role of this generation for societal well-being in the future of “Indonesia Emas 2045”, this study aims to identify the specific risk factors and protective factors that can mitigate these risks using social determinants of health such as socioeconomic status (SES), education, family and social support that contributes to the cycle of violence. Dimas Romadhon and Tunggul Lestari examine the central principle of fund collecting strategy within the Indonesian health insurance system (JKN), called gotong royong. Reflecting on the linguistic history of the term and how the contemporary Indonesian state and the public have struggled to find an agreeable fund-collecting model to finance the national health insurance system, the presenters argue that this tension is rooted in the unstable nature and definition of the gotong royong principle.
