This session discusses collection development strategies that aim to diversify and provide better access to library collections. It took place on April 6, 2022, as part of the ARLIS/NA 50th Annual Conference in Chicago. Giana Ricci presents "Diversifying an Artists’ Book Collection Through Data Analysis: Creating a Sense of Belonging and Inclusion for Student Artists." Her talk shares her experience using OpenRefine to assess the data associated with the circulating artists’ books at the NYU Libraries to facilitate targeted collection development and promotion of books by and about BIPOC. Viveca Pattison Robichaud and Gwen Mayhew then present "African Architecture Matters: Developing and Increasing the Visibility of African Architectural Collections in North America and Abroad." They share how the donation of a collection of books on African architecture was acquired by the CCA and subsequent programming was established. All three presenters discuss the implications of their collection development strategies, positive takeaways, identified areas for improvement, and plans for the future.
