On November 28, 2022, the MSU Department of Romance & Classical Studies hosted a virtual conversation with the acclaimed Spanish writer Issac Rosa, with support from the Center for Latin American & Caribbean Studies, the Center for Russian & Eurasian Studies and the Creative Writing Program. Scott Boehm led a discussion that focused on Rosa's 2022 award-winning novel Lugar seguro
in the context of Rosa's literary trajectory to date in conjunction with the course SPN 412: Critical Approaches to Ecology, Economics & Care in Contemporary Spain.
In
this wide-ranging conversation, Rosa & Boehm touched upon many of the crises
facing our world today, including the crisis of imagination when it comes to envisioning a non-dystopian collective future -- which was precisely what inspired Rosa to write Lugar seguro -- as well as the role that literature can play in rendering alternatives to apocalypse imaginable during uncertain times.
