My name is Florencia Colella. I am a Michigan State University Extension Educator. And in this video I am going to show you how you can decide which Farm Bill program to sign up for. You're going to need a few things before we start. In the first place, you're going to have to go to the FSA office and find out what your farm base acres and PLC yields are. And I'm going to show you what reports you can ask them for. Another thing you're going to need is your farm yields from 2013 onward. A few people or a few places you can get that from is your insurance company. FSA may have them too, or you may have your own records, of course. So we need those yields as well. And the third and last thing you need is the Michigan State University Extension ARC/PLC calculator. And I'm going to show you how to get that as well. So before we go any further, I am going to share my screen. And right here you can see an example of one of the reports that you can find at your local FSA office. This is called 156 record. And it has your farm number right here at the top. It will have your name somewhere at the top or at the bottom. And it's also got the location of the farm, the physical location down here and here at the top it's got the information of the county that the farm is administered at and it may be administered in a county, but it is really important that we are aware of where the farm is actually physically located and that's going to appear down here. Other very important information that you will find in this report is the information that's right here. Base acres for each commodity or for some commodities and PLC yields. So you do need this other things that we are going to need is to know for each farm whether there's irrigation or not, or if there was prevent plant or not. That information is not here. You may know that. But if you don't know it or if you don't remember or if you have too many farms, you can ask your Farm Service Agency Office for this other report. I think they call it the producer report. And it has each and every one of your farms here. There's just one farm in this example. The farm number would have been here, your information would have been up here. And it's got the different track numbers in that farm. And the description of where the farm is at is where this black mark is. And then it has for each commodity, how much, how many acres were reported. In this here, you would see a 'p' if there was prevent plant and I'm not sure where exactly, but there is a part where they will tell you whether there was irrigation or not right here. So all of that information that you need to make your decision, FSA is going to be able to give you. And so these are the acres. And again, talk to your insurance agent if you need your yields. Ok. The other thing I told you that you would need is the farm business management MSU extension calculator. And you can get that from Google. So if you have a computer and Internet, you could go to Google and write down "ARC PLC MSU". And if you click enter or hit enter, the first result is ARC/PLC calculator. And if you click there, then you will have right here a button to download an Excel file. Before we do that, I wanted to show you a couple other things. You have a help sheet down here that will guide you step-by-step on how to do that. I am also going to do that on this video. But if you want a written guide, that will be really useful. And there's also the Farm Bill presentation that we had been showing at several meetings across the state of Michigan in the past couple of months. And you can download that from here. Also, I wanted to give a shout out to Roger Betz here. He is the creator of this calculator I'm showing you. Okay, so let's go up here. We're going to download that file and in my computer, I get that open right in the browser but since we are going to play with the numbers, I am going to hit download up at the top here again, so that I can open it on Excel. So now I have it right down here. I'm going to click there again. And Excel is going to open. Alright there it is.
