Earle Robinson tells the story of his great great grandparents, Zachariah and Mary Rebecca Nevitt Morgan, African Americans who homesteaded in Michigan's Charlevoix County. Robinson recounts Zachariah upbringing as a free Black in North Carolina and his family's eventual move to Haiti where he met and married Mary who was originally born a slave in Washington D.C. Zachariah and Mary moved to Michigan to farm and raise a family and were influential in the creation of the community’s infrastructure including building schools, churches, and stores.
