So, this is a really simple exercise to show you how you can use inner monologue to change the subtext of a line. Remember, "inner monologue" is your "self-talk" or "running monologue of thoughts" and "subtext" is the underlying meaning of the words you're speaking. So, here's what you'll need: a simple line of text, make something up, like; "Today is gonna be a good day". Then you write it down, then create a grid underneath with 10 lines of self-talk or inner monologue, kind of like this. Then, you'll record the video you'll upload it to FlipGrid, where you'll speak the first line of self-talk out loud followed by your simple line. Then, simply think that first line and speak your simple line, like this: Line one, "I had a good night's sleep, I feel refreshed." [simple line] "Today is gonna be a good day." [thinking: I had a good night's sleep I feel refreshed.] [simple line] "Today is gonna be a good day." Line 2. "Oh crap! I missed the bus, I'm late for work." [simple line] "Today is gonna be a good day." [thinking: Oh crap! I missed the bus I'm late for work.] [simple line] "Today's gonna be a good day." Do that with all 10 lines of self-talk then upload your video to FlipGrid and watch it back. And then, write down the subtext or underlying meaning of each one. So, there'll be 10 in total. Then, click on your FlipGrid video, click on "pause", then click on "reply". The import video window is going to open. Click on "import video", hover over to the sticky notes icon, click on "add sticky note" and type in the 10 lines of subtext/underlying meaning you recorded. Now, what's so great about this exercise is that you get to see Inner Monologue and Subtext change the meaning of the same line of text. Awesome! Have fun!
